On the 18th November, 2006, we celebrated our fifth birthday. The original founders of Earth Matters, Irene and Alan Croal, came down to North Berwick to join in the celebrations, bringing with them a home-made cake that was brilliantly iced by Irene in a recreation of the Fairtrade mark, with a smaller cake iced as the Earth Matters’ logo.
They and many of the volunteers crowded into our tiny shop to sing Happy Birthday while local Green MSP, Chris Ballance, cut the cake.
There were special offers throughout the day and balloons adorned the outside of the shop. Sales were good too, and it turned out to be the best day sales-wise we had yet had!
Later that evening, we held our AGM and then tucked into dishes from around the world, all contributed by our volunteers.
(l-r) Chris Ballance cuts the cake while Alan and Irene Croal and shop manager, Ali Nimmo, look on.

Volunteers, Anna Pearson and Sheila Murdoch, show off the front of the shop.
