New in Store
With the larger premises, we now have lots of new things in store, with more to come over the next couple of weeks. Along with all our usual stock, we now have duvet covers and throws, a wider range of fairtrade food, more varieties of Faith in Nature products, a new range of Silverchilli jewellery, a wider range of the wonderfully characterful Kenana Knitters toys, and Pants to Poverty pants. We have room for more clothes now, and so have a wider range both for adults and children, with plenty of Little Green Radicals’ t-shirts in as well as new Nomads summer stock. After several attempts, we have finally managed to get in a range of Ethletic trainers (now in two new colours as well as the traditional black and white). The rubber in the soles is FSC certified, as well as them being fairly-traded. Soon, though, they will also be made of organic cotton – this will, of course, put the price up a bit, so if you want the cheaper ones, get them while you can.
Fairly Traded Clothes - We stock a range of clothes from Hug, Gossypium, BishopstonTrading,Namaste and Nomads. All our clothing is fairly traded, and many of the garments from Bishopston Trading, and all those from Hug and Gossypium are made from Fairtrade organic cotton. We also stock children’sand baby clothes. Unfortunately, our range changes so quickly we can’t give you a list of all we do. But if there’s something particular you’re looking for, why not give us a call to see if we have it in stock, or can get it for you.
Toiletries -We stock a range of natural and organic toiletries, from Faith in Naturesoaps and shampoos, to Green People moisturisers. Click left for our Product List.
Cosmetics - new in store!
Household Products - Earth Matters supply a variety of green eco-cleaning products for cleaning around the home. None of these products contain any of the toxic chemicals that cause harmful pollution by building up in the environment and even in our own bodies.
We stock almost the full range of Ecover cleaning products, plus we provide a refill service for as many of them as we can. This not only saves on plastic bottles, it also saves you money. Click left for our product list.

We stock other household products too – recycled toilet tissue and kitchen roll, and biodegradable bin liners.
Eco Gifts -
These gifts, while not being fairly traded, are in our shop because they are in some way environmentally friendly. The most popular ones we stock are Greenglass glasses and Seaglass jewellery. The glasses are made from bottles, turning the bottle upside down to make a glass. It’s ingenious and the end result is both beautiful and an intriguing talking point. They come in a variety of different styles, which changedepending on what bottlesare available to them at the time. Sea-glass jewellery is a recent addition to their range of bracelets and necklaces made from recycled glass to look like the sea-worn glass you see washed up on beaches.
We stock a range of incense, both sticks and cones, all fairly-traded from India. Plus we often have soapstone oil burners and incense holders.
We stock a select range of Putamayo CDs, and we also stock recycled printer paper, writing paper and envelopes.
EcoBaby & EcoKids -
We offer a wide range of products for babies and children, from real nappies and babycare products to organic cotton baby clothes, fairly-traded children’s clothes and a range of beautiful, fairly traded toys.
Real Nappies
We stock a small range of cloth nappies, and encourage all new mums to give them a go! Gone are the days of fumbling with nappy pins and terry squares (although we still sell them if you want them!) and uncomfortable plastic outers – these days, ‘real’ nappies are cool!
The low down on using a ‘real’ nappy:
For each ‘nappy’ you need –
1)a liner (these go next to the baby’s skin and need to be changed most frequently)
2) a nappy (these are the main cloth part, usually made of flannelette or terry towelling. For any one size, you need about 16-20 of these)
3) outer or ‘wrap’ (this is the outer, waterproof layer, usually elasticated. You do not need to change these as often as the nappies – you need about 3 per size.)
What we stock:
1) Liners: Disposable – these can be flushed away and are biodegradable. They come in toddler size and baby size. Washable – Tots Bots fleece liners are sold individually. (Please be aware - we do not always have these in stock)
2) Nappies:
Imse Vimse – organic flannelette nappies come in packs of four. They are shaped but need to be folded and held together with nappy pins. The advantage is that they are organic and can last from new-borns until toddlers.
Tots Bots – Made of terry towelling, these come unbleached or bleached, or coloured, with Velcro or without (to be used with Nappy Nippas) and are in sizes 0, 1, 2 and 3. It’s usually not necessary to use size 0 or size 3. Size 2 can often be used from about 6 weeks old to when the child is out of nappies, by folding it down in the early months. They are shaped and elasticated round the legs and easy to use. There are coloured ones too, which are slightly thinner and dry more quickly.
Bamboo – Also from the Tots Bots company, these are made from bamboo and are very soft and silky. They come in the same sizes as the Tots Bots.
Fluffles – Also from the Tots Bots company, made from synthetic fibres and very quick drying. They can come with poppers or without, in the same sizes as above.
Terry squares – For the really cheap option, these are the traditional nappies that have to be folded and pinned. They come in a pack of 6 in sizes Large, Medium or Small.
3) Outers:
Imse Vimse – these come in a full range of sizes from XS to XL but it is possible to skip a size as they overlap. They are patterned and breathable, and have a cotton-feel to them. There used to be two types, ‘Night’ and ‘Day’, and we still have some of these, but recently they have started just doing one type.
Tots Bots – come in the same sizes as their nappies. Size 2 usually does from about 8mths until the baby is out of nappies. They feel more plasticky but are also more waterproof.
3. Training Pants: Thick cloth pants that give protection when toddlers are toilet training, but allow them to be easily pulled up and down. We stock Imse Vimse, which, like their outers, are patterned.
See mumsnet.co.uk for more information on nappies.
Fairtrade Food - We stock an increasingly wide and varied selection of Fair Trade Foods.
