Our Volunteers...

Earth Matters relies on volunteers to keep the shop open.  Without them, the shop would not have lasted as long or done as well as it has.

We have about fifteen shop volunteers, and most do about one half-day shift (3.5 hours) every fortnight. We have other volunteers too, though, who work outside the shop: helping on stalls, talking to schools about fair-trade, working on the legal or financial side of things, or producing this website.  Altogether, they do a fantastic job!
Here’s what some of them say about working in the shop:

Volunteers"All of this is very idealistic and satisfying to be part of, but other important attractions of being a volunteer are the customers and our fellow volunteers.  We meet some very interesting people and have lots of fulfilling conversations with customers.  I am looking forward to the day when we have a bigger shop and room for a little corner where people can meet and have a chat with a cup of Fairtrade coffee.
I have been a volunteer for nearly five years now and it is very much a part of my life.  It keeps me young!”  Anna P.

One of the best things about volunteering is that you meet like-minded people, both as customers and as fellow volunteers - people with an interest in supporting the developing world and in protecting the environment. Everyone is friendly and social events are arranged from time to time. I'd certainly recommend volunteering to anyone new to the area who wants to make contacts and have some involvement in
the local community.”
Sue

“What I find so interesting about being a volunteer in Earth Matters is that it is not the same as working in a charity shop, there is so much more to it.  As well as providing an outlet for Fair Trade products, we have a constantly growing customer base for our Ecover and Faith in Nature refilling facilities and  a good selection of recycled goods which are very popular.

“A great way to meet people!”  Anna B.

HOW CAN I HELP?
We always welcome new volunteers, whether you want to help in the shop, or bring a particular expertise to the team.  We can accommodate those who only have a couple of hours a month to offer, or those who can give much more time.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, pop into the shop, or email earthmattersltd@fsmail.net, or give us a call: 01620 895401.  We look forward to hearing from you!
